Update

Yay, Lia and Alanna=zine party!

So it's all together, except for Carly's page.

It ended up being 22 pages (6 sheets)
I meant for it to be 20, but I didn't realize that's impossible since there's 2 sides to a sheet.
But the extra 2 pages were fixed with the pic from Jimmy's cw binder he swapped me for Dick Clark.

It's up for approval now, and hopefully there's no reason it shouldn't be.
I guess there's some form that needs filled out if we're selling it at school.

There's no way this will be handed out free. Too much work went into it, and the $ will be needed for future issues. I'm firmly upholding the $1 charge just because that's how much they usually run and if Frazier kids are too cheap to pay $1 for a 22 page zine, but they'll spend $1.50 for flavored water at lunch, then screw that. A zine is a million times better than any flavored beverage and 50 cents less.

Zine Party

Come to my house tomorrow if you can from 1-3ish.

I haven't glued anything down (partly because I don't have a gluestick) but mainly so we can figure out what order the pages should be in.
Cover design needs figured out.
Basically the whole thing will get put together and finishing touches good stuff will go down.

So if you can come, please do and bring a glue stick, because I think I killed my last one and my have to make a Perry Drug run tomorrow to stock up again.

Issue 1 Progress...

Here's what I got:

Dear chelsea (2pgs)
Vic's interview
Joyce's collage
Heather's drawing
Emily's "political" cartoon
Random quotes/pics/poems (2pgs)
My artist page
Carly's article
The great word poll (2 pgs)
How to play exquisite corpse and the lovely example (2 pgs)
Why we need an arts club sponsor (2 pgs)
Leo's club promotion?

Everything listed here would take up 17 pages and there are only 18 to use once you do the front and back cover. SO.

Carly, I need to know if your article is gonna be 1 or 2 pgs so I can leave room
And I want to know if you guys want your names on the pages of the stuff you did, or have a table of contents with the contributors.

layout meeting

...I'm listening to enya...?

anyway
the meeting today went well.
We played exquisite corpse (which may or may not be in this issue, depending on if there's room)
and Chelsea started her poll on how people say funny words like flipper, flicky, clicker, and switcher when they really mean remote. Real examples were involved, including a picture of Dick Clark for dinner/supper.

I've just estimated from the submissions I have so far and by those I know people are working on (Chelsea's Dear Chelsea, Carly's whatever it is, Vic's interview, Joyce's collage, ect) that the zine will probably need to be 20 pages. I know that sounds like a lot, but it's really only 5 sheets folded. I was thinking we'd only need 3 for a 10 page zine. THIS IS A GOOD AND BAD THING! It means this is going to be an awesome issue :) but it also means we're going to use more paper :\ So I'm thinking just for now that 5 sheets, 20 pages should be our standard size. Especially if we're only selling them for 10-25 cents.

Alanna you're sweet pic of "it's not just an floor" has married my sweet pic of the gym floor and they are quite happy together.

..there's a cricket on the rug...
CRICKETS ARE GOOD LUCK AREN'T THEY?

New Idea

I stole an idea from a website that I think would be very popular... but, I'm not sure I can get it by Friday.

more ideas

here they be.

-Take a poll on something like how many people say pop/soda, kleenex/tissue, sofa/couch, and the infamous gumband/rubber band. I find it very interesting that even in one school, people still use different terms for the same thing, even if it isn't evident everyday.

-Soo many people dont know what hummus is!!!... Sooo many people don't know any other artist except Picasso!!! as a matter of fact they probably couldn't tell the difference between hummus or Picasso if Picasso was feeding them hummus!
*of course this would be impossible since Picasso is dead, tell me you knew that?*
What I'm saying is if you know something that you think other people should know too. Write about it. If you think it's stupid, then theres more of a reason to write about it. Obviously you've just been warped into thinking it's cool to be dumb. "Dude I'm not gonna write about *blank* No one knows/cares what *blank* is." That = write about it DURRRRR.

-All the fun stuff from Mr. Black's mod world/geo/ap euro classes. Who hasn't had a crazy memory from one of those? "You put the fish in the ground with the corn" c'mon I wasn't even there and it's funny. CROMWELL.

I'm gonna put in something about needing an art club sponser and explain that briefly I think.
Also I'll put in this blog address.

OH! If you haven't given me a submission yet, fold a standard sheet of paper in half and make your submission fit to one page of that size (or 2 pages). This will make it SO much easier because if it doesn't fit I'll have to scan it and print it again. And I already have to do this for most of the stuff submitted already.

Also, when you give me your submission (which will be what size? that's right 5"x8", just fold the sheet in half you mathmatically challenged, it took me long enough to figure out the dimesions, and they're probably wrong) tell me if that's the way you want it in the zine or if I have permission to cut it up or draw all over it :D
And I mean if that's the way you want it, I hope you have made it interesting and put a cool photo with your poem or made illustrations for example. Otherwise you'll end up having the most boring page of the zine. And that's just shameful.

Zine Ideas

Yay for my first pooooost!

My mind’s been on the run for those of you (including myself) who have few-no topics for the first issue of our zine. All of these ideas are up for grabs so please use some of them!! If you decide to use any of them, post a comment or entry explaining which and what exactly you’re going to do (makes life easier for Jayna):

*Intro article for the zine (if Jenna isn’t already doing it), explaining the importance of arts **SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO THIS**

*Criticisms on anything in the school

*Support/encouragement/hopes for anything in the school

*Interviews—opposing sides interviews are always fun (eg. Person #1 "I hate Pepsi!" Person #2 "I'd fall off of the face of the earth if I ran out of Pepsi!)

*This ones on my creative side: Take a piece of Jenna's artwork and write a poem/story/etc for it

*ZINE recruiting advertisement! LOL

*Club/organization advertisements

*Pep rally thoughts

I also think that this is a good idea:

*Group picture of the staff/individual pictures and signatures to put next to our articles

announcement

There will be a meeting on Tuesday, Activity A in Mr. Rafail's room to work on the layout of the zine.
I don't know how many pages it will be yet, so hopefully after this meeting we'll have an idea.

For submissions so far we have:

-Random quotes by various people
-Emily's Sting tribute
-Poems by Jimmy
-Dear Chelsea
-and I have some stuff, plus things I found like Carly's math poem from years ago.

Remember, deadline for the 1st issue is Friday the 22!

Can't think of anything?
What about a short story or writing about a weird dream? Pick an emotion and write about it or try stream of conciousness writing. Artwork (eg doodles during class) and photos never fail.
If you absolutely are at a loss, don't worry about it. Maybe you'll get an idea after seeing the 1st issue. You can always submit to later issues!

first meeting

woo! people actually came!
so here's an overview of what went down:
-just talked about what to put in the zine and looked at some examples
-the question of the title was answered in creative writing (unless someone comes up with a totally awesome one before we print that's a billion times better than FisHeS)
-get me any submissions by
FRIDAY the 22!
